Sanikind is a first of its kind hand sanitizer dispenser that’s made from recovered and recycled ocean plastics.

I used to have bottles of sticky (and often stinky) sanitizer goop all over my home, my office and even my car. Those products were filled with all sorts of toxic ingredients, and when they ran out, I had to replace them - with yet another plastic bottle.

Today, those bottles have all been replaced by the sleek and better-for-the-planet Sanikind refillable dispenser. This handsome little spray bottle, which is made from plastic waste that’s been recovered from our oceans, holds about 450 sprays of unscented hand sanitizer. The included clip makes it easy to attach to your keychain, your purse, or your kids’ backpack, for take-everywhere protection.

Why it Matters

Plastic waste is a growing problem. Did you know that by the year 2050, all of the plastic in the ocean could weigh more than all of the fish? What’s even more alarming is that plastic is currently killing more than a million ocean animals each year.

In order to save our oceans, ensure ocean species survival, and secure vital food supplies, we must do all that we can to stop plastics from reaching the ocean. And we must pull existing plastics out.

And that is just what Sanikind is doing.  

Why we love Sanikind

Sanikind was founded with a mission to clean up our oceans, while helping you and me to enjoy clean hands and clean surfaces - without the worry of plastic waste ending up on beaches, waterways and oceans around the world. 

That’s a mission that is solidly in line with our own. I see disposable masks littering my neighborhood, parks and other public spaces. Reusable masks like our HALOmask help to keep plastics out of landfills, waterways and our precious oceans. 

Sanikind’s handy and adorable spray dispenser is a travel-sized, TSA-approved marvel that seems to take forever between refills. Their refills, which come in sleek, recyclable aluminum bottles, are made to the World Health Organization’s Formulation #1 guideline - which is recommended by both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Sanikind’s founders have a long history of world-saving projects. Prior to the launch of Sanikind, company co-founder, Miles Pepper (cool name, right?), created Final Straw, a reusable straw that was designed to reduce plastic straw waste around the world. That project was a huge success and when I spotted Miles’ next project, Sanikind, which he launched with co-founder, Martica Wakeman on crowdfunding site Indiegogo, I sought them out. Sanikind is a natural fit for our own HALOLabs mission.

To date, Sanikind has reclaimed the equivalent of 118,000 plastic bottles from the ocean, with an estimated 360,000 disposable sanitizer bottles prevented from ending up in landfills.
